Richmond is one of the oldest towns in Tasmania. Famous for the Richmond Bridge, built in 1823. The oldest stone bridge remaining in Australia. Richmond Bridge allowed travel to the Tasman Peninsula.

Richmond origin is 1803 when coal was discovered and led to the naming of the Coal River. In 1824, the township of Richmond was formally named.

Richmond Court House was developed in 1825. In the early days, it was also used for church services and as council chambers from 1861.
St. Luke’s Church started in 1834.The foundation stone was laid in 1834 by Governor Arthur. Created by John Lee Archer and built by convict labour, the church was finalised in 1835. James Thompson, the convict who was responsible for the original timber work inside the building, was given his independence as a reward for his work.
St. John’s Church, started in 1836, is the oldest Catholic Church in Australia.
Modern Richmond tourist attractions consist of a maze and Old Hobart Town Historical Model Village, based on historical documents of how Hobart looked in the 1820s. This Model Village, which took three years to construct, has sixty buildings and 400 figurines.
Zoo Doo Fun Park is six kilometres outside Richmond with a range of animals including alpacas, llamas, buffalo and camels.
